Transferring a domain moves registration to a new registrar. The domain itself stays the same; only billing and management change.
This article explains what to prepare before a domain transfer, including access requirements, DNS records, and expected transfer timing.
Before you transfer
- Unlock the domain at your current registrar.
- Request an authorisation (EPP) code.
- Confirm the registrant email is current.
- Export or screenshot all DNS records.
Transfers typically take 5 to 7 days. Your site should stay online if DNS is unchanged during the transfer.
