Backups Overview
BugShield cloud backups create recoverable copies of the WordPress database and site files outside the website’s own hosting. They are included with Shield Light and Shield Pro and require the WordPress plugin connection.
Schedule and storage
- Shield Light: automatic weekly backups with up to 100GB of backup storage.
- Shield Pro: automatic daily backups, on-demand backups and up to 200GB of backup storage.
- Both plans: a 28-day retention window and off-site full-site restore points.
What a backup contains
A completed full-site backup includes the WordPress database and site files. The Backups history shows its date, time, type, size and status. Follow Creating & Downloading Backups to save a full archive or its available database and files components.
How backups start
After the plugin is connected, BugShield queues the first automatic backup. Future backups are then scheduled weekly for Shield Light or daily for Shield Pro. Large sites can take longer to prepare and upload.
Backups are not the same as monitoring
Monitoring tells you about health and availability; backups give you a prior state to download or restore. A healthy backup does not prove the live site is healthy, and a healthy monitoring result does not replace a recovery point.
Review backup health
Check the latest successful run, next scheduled run, storage use and failures in the Backups dashboard. The BugShield team also receives backup failure alerts and will investigate repeated issues as part of your maintenance plan.
