Subscription Billing

Shield Light and Shield Pro renew monthly for the site they cover. Your account has shared billing details, while each workspace shows its own subscription and plan state. See Managing Multiple Sites for how subscriptions stay attached to individual workspaces.

View billing information

Open Settings > Billing to review the active site’s plan, saved payment method and billing information. The Invoices area keeps downloadable records of charges associated with your account.

Update the payment method

You can update your saved card in Settings > Billing. The new card will be used for future subscription payments.

Upgrade or downgrade

  • Upgrade to Shield Pro: the change can apply immediately, giving the site Pro benefits straight away.
  • Downgrade from Shield Pro to Shield Light: the downgrade is scheduled for the next billing date, and Pro benefits continue until then.

Failed or overdue payments

If a renewal fails, the site can become past due. BugShield shows a payment prompt and may pause protected actions such as new fix work, downloads, restores and manual backups until payment is recovered. Update the card or retry the outstanding payment from the prompt.

Cancel a plan

You can cancel the maintenance plan from Settings > Billing. Your plan benefits continue until the end of the current paid billing period, and there is no cancellation fee. Before the plan ends, download any backups or records you want to keep.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Are plans billed per account or per site?

Per site. Each Shield subscription is attached to one WordPress workspace.

When does an upgrade take effect?

An upgrade to Shield Pro can apply immediately. Review the checkout summary for the amount due.

When does a downgrade take effect?

A downgrade is scheduled for the next billing date, so existing Pro benefits continue through the paid period.

What happens after cancellation?

The plan remains active until the end of the current paid period, then plan-only monitoring, backups, support and included fixes end.
