These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the BugShield website and platform operated by BugShield Ltd (“BugShield”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By creating an account or using our services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use BugShield.
1. About our services
BugShield provides WordPress bug fixing, maintenance plans, secure credential storage (the Vault), site monitoring, cloud backups, and related support services. Services are offered on a per-fix (one-off) or subscription basis as described on our pricing page.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and have the authority to enter into these Terms on behalf of yourself or the business you represent. You must have lawful ownership of, or authorisation to manage, any WordPress sites you add to BugShield.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access. You may add multiple WordPress sites to your account; vault items and fix requests are tied to the relevant site.
4. Fix requests and quotes
One-off fixes are quoted before work begins. Quotes are based on the issue type and scope you describe. A “bug fix” means a single reported issue with a clear resolution. If your request involves multiple unrelated problems, we will inform you before any additional charges apply.
You agree to provide accurate information, reasonable access to your site, and timely responses during an active fix. Delays caused by incomplete information or unavailable access may affect resolution times.
If we determine we cannot resolve your issue, you are entitled to a full refund for that fix request.
5. Maintenance plans
Shield Light and Shield Pro are recurring subscription services billed monthly. Plan features, fix allowances, backup frequency, and response times are as described at the time of purchase. Unused fix allowances do not roll over unless explicitly stated.
We may update plan features or pricing with reasonable notice. Price changes apply from your next billing cycle unless otherwise stated.
6. Shield Pro fair usage
Shield Pro includes unlimited bug fixes for one subscribed WordPress site. “Unlimited” means you may submit as many qualifying fix requests as your site reasonably needs during your subscription, subject to the fair usage rules in this section.
Each fix request must relate to a single reported issue with a clear resolution, as described in section 4. Requests that involve multiple unrelated problems, substantial new feature work, full site rebuilds, or repeated submissions for the same underlying issue caused by changes you make after a fix is completed may be treated as separate work, declined, or handled outside your included allowance.
Fair usage expects that you will:
- Use Shield Pro for one registered site per subscription, not for multiple unrelated sites or client portfolios on a single plan.
- Submit fix requests in good faith for genuine bugs, errors, or breakages affecting your live site.
- Provide accurate information and reasonable access so issues can be resolved efficiently.
- Allow us to complete and close an active fix before submitting unrelated new requests where practical.
- Address recurring problems at source where we identify a preventable cause, such as disabling a conflicting plugin or reversing an untested change.
We may consider usage unreasonable if fix volume, frequency, or scope is clearly inconsistent with normal maintenance of a single WordPress site, including patterns that suggest abuse, reselling of our services, or use of Shield Pro as unlimited development resource rather than bug fixing.
If we believe your usage exceeds fair use, we may contact you to discuss your needs, queue or limit concurrent fix requests, require issues to be submitted in a defined order, or propose an alternative arrangement. In serious or repeated cases, we may restrict fix submissions, suspend services, or terminate your subscription in line with section 16.
Malware removal and prevention included with Shield Pro cover active security incidents and standard hardening related to an affected site. Large-scale recovery projects, repeated reinfections caused by neglected updates or insecure practices, or work requiring extensive manual review beyond a typical clean-up may be quoted separately or handled as additional work.
7. Vault and site access
By storing credentials in the Vault or granting site access, you authorise BugShield developers to access your WordPress site solely to perform requested services. You warrant that you have the right to provide such access. Vault credentials are encrypted and access is logged.
You remain responsible for maintaining your own backups and for any third-party hosting or plugin licences on your site, unless your plan explicitly includes backup services.
8. Payments and billing
Prices are shown in British pounds (GBP) and include VAT where applicable. One-off fixes are charged when you confirm a quote. Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled. Payment is processed by our third-party payment provider.
If a subscription payment fails, we may suspend services after reasonable notice. You remain responsible for any outstanding amounts.
9. Cancellation and refunds
You may cancel a maintenance subscription at any time through your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we do not provide partial refunds for unused days in a billing cycle unless required by law.
One-off fix refunds are provided where we cannot complete the agreed work, as described in section 4. Refund requests for completed work are considered on a case-by-case basis.
10. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use BugShield for unlawful purposes or to support illegal activity.
- Submit fix requests for sites you do not own or have permission to manage.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or other users’ accounts.
- Interfere with or disrupt the platform, including through automated scraping or abuse.
- Harass, threaten, or abuse BugShield staff or developers.
- Reverse engineer or copy our platform except as permitted by law.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
11. Intellectual property
BugShield retains all rights in the platform, branding, and documentation. Work performed on your WordPress site belongs to you, subject to any third-party plugin or theme licences. You grant us a limited licence to use information you provide solely to deliver our services.
12. Service availability
We aim to provide reliable services but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Scheduled maintenance, third-party outages, and circumstances beyond our reasonable control may affect access. Response time targets for fix requests and support are goals, not guarantees, unless expressly agreed in writing.
13. Disclaimers
BugShield is provided “as is” to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that our services will be error-free or that your site will be free from future issues after a fix. We are not responsible for problems caused by third-party plugins, themes, hosting providers, or changes you make to your site after our work is complete.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BugShield Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunity, arising from your use of our services.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or our services is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid to BugShield in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) £100. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or fraud.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless BugShield Ltd, its directors, employees, and contractors from claims, damages, and expenses arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the platform, or your lack of authority to provide site access or credentials.
16. Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, fail to pay, or if we discontinue the service with reasonable notice. Upon termination, your right to use the platform ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will remain in effect.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence give you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated by email or through the platform. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
