What the checker covers
Five parts of WordPress AI readiness
AI readiness starts with familiar website foundations, then adds clear policies and optional ways for agents to use supported services.
Help agents find and read the site
These checks cover the public routes an agent needs before it can do anything useful.
01
Discoverability
Scan robots.txt, XML sitemaps, Link headers and DNS-AID records.
02
Readable content
Request the homepage as Markdown and verify the response format.
Show what agents may access and use
Policies, protocols and commerce signals describe the site's more advanced capabilities.
AI bot policy
Detect deliberate crawler rules, Content Signals and Web Bot Auth.
Agent capabilities
Probe API, OAuth, MCP, A2A, Agent Skills, WebMCP and ARD discovery.
Agentic commerce
UnscoredReport public x402, MPP, UCP and ACP signals without adding them to the score.
Why it matters
Help AI systems reach the right WordPress content
An AI agent is software that gathers information or carries out a task for someone. Before it can use a website well, it needs to find the right pages, read them without guesswork and understand which actions are genuinely available.
That makes much of agent readiness good web housekeeping. A current sitemap, useful page copy, Markdown access and a clear crawler policy help machines reach the same information your visitors rely on.
The score is a guide, not an AI ranking
The server checks every supported signal and scores the non-commerce results equally. A check that cannot be verified does not pass, and commerce experiments do not affect the score. A high result cannot guarantee that a model will crawl, quote or recommend the website.
Useful for content sites
Focus on discovery, readable pages and crawler policy.
Extended for apps and shops
Add protected actions and protocols only when the site needs them.
A sensible improvement order
How to make a WordPress site more AI ready
-
Step 1
Fix crawl and discovery basics
Keep public pages reachable, publish a valid robots.txt and sitemap, and remove broken canonical links before adding newer agent files.
-
Step 2
Make the content unambiguous
Use descriptive headings, direct copy, accurate metadata and relevant JSON-LD. Keep important information in the initial HTML.
-
Step 3
Offer a cleaner reading route
Where it suits the site, return Markdown when a compatible agent requests it and keep that representation in step with the live page.
-
Step 4
Add actions only with real safeguards
APIs, MCP tools and commerce actions need authentication, ownership checks, server-side validation, user confirmation and clear limits.
WordPress AI readiness FAQs
Questions about AI-ready WordPress websites
What is a WordPress AI readiness checker?
A WordPress AI readiness checker tests whether agents can discover and read a website, then looks for machine-readable ways to understand supported actions. This scan checks public files, headers, DNS records and protocol endpoints automatically.
Does AI readiness improve WordPress SEO?
Several foundations overlap with good technical SEO, including crawlable pages, sitemaps, accurate metadata, structured data and clear internal links. AI readiness also covers newer signals that traditional SEO audits may not review. No checker can guarantee rankings or inclusion in an AI answer.
What is the difference between AI search and AI agents?
AI search systems find and summarise information. AI agents may go further by using a form, API or published tool to complete a task. The checker reviews both content foundations and advanced action or commerce signals, even when some do not apply to a simple WordPress site.
Does every WordPress site need an MCP server?
No. A normal blog or business website can be useful to AI systems without an MCP server. MCP matters when a website deliberately exposes maintained data or tools for agents. Adding a weak or unsafe integration only to raise a score is not worthwhile.
Should my WordPress site provide Markdown?
Markdown can give compatible agents a cleaner version of a page than the full visual HTML shell. The checker requests the homepage with a text/markdown Accept header, but support remains optional and cannot guarantee inclusion in AI answers.
How do I make WordPress content easier for AI agents to read?
Keep important copy in the initial HTML, use meaningful headings and links, maintain a clear sitemap and provide accurate machine-readable discovery information. Markdown negotiation can give compatible agents a cleaner version of a page.
Will this checker change my WordPress site?
No. BugShield's server reads public files, headers, DNS records and standard discovery endpoints. It does not log in, install a plugin, submit forms or edit the website.
Does the checker run every test automatically?
Yes. One domain submission runs every supported check. The results distinguish detected, not detected and could not verify, so a network error or unclear response is not guessed as a pass.
Do agentic commerce checks affect the score?
No. Emerging commerce protocols appear in the complete results, but they do not affect the core readiness score. A store should adopt them only when they fit a real customer journey with secure server-side pricing, consent and payment controls.
